How to Set Meditation Interval Bells
By Stillness Timer ·
An interval bell is a sound that plays during a session, rather than only at its beginning or end. You can use it as a reminder to return your attention to your chosen practice or as a marker between parts of a session. Interval bells are optional in Stillness Timer.
Choose the interval before you start
Open More Settings and find Interval bells. Select Off, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 15 minutes. Choose a session duration longer than your interval if you want to hear a bell during the session. The preparation delay does not count toward the interval schedule.
Understand the timing
In a 15-minute session with a 5-minute interval, you can expect interval sounds around minutes 5 and 10, followed by the completion bell at the end. Stillness Timer avoids playing an interval sound immediately before completion. Interval settings are locked while a session is active or paused, so reset the timer before changing them.
Use a bell as a simple cue
Before starting, decide what the sound will mean for you. It might be a cue to notice your posture, return to your breathing, or move to the next part of a personal routine. You do not need to react in a particular way. If the sounds feel distracting, leave interval bells off for your next session.
Check volume and browser behavior
The selected bell is also used for intervals, at a softer level than the start and completion sounds. Preview it and check your device volume before starting. Browsers may delay sound while a device sleeps or a tab is suspended. Missed interval sounds are not replayed in a rapid sequence when the page resumes.
