Set Up a Simple Five-Minute Meditation Session
By Stillness Timer ·
A short session can be easy to fit between other activities. This guide describes one simple way to prepare a five-minute sit using Stillness Timer. Adapt the setup to your comfort and available time; there is no requirement to keep a particular posture or empty your mind.
Make a little room in your day
Choose a place where you can sit comfortably for a few minutes. Put anything you need within reach, and decide whether you want to keep your eyes open or closed. Allow a little extra time before and after the timer so you do not have to rush directly into another activity.
Set up the timer
Choose the 5 min quick button. In More Settings, select a 10-second preparation delay if you would like time to settle after pressing Start. Preview a bell and choose a comfortable volume. Leave interval bells off for a single uninterrupted session, or use the 1-minute option if you prefer regular time markers.
Choose a point of attention
You might pay attention to the sensation of breathing naturally, the contact of your feet with the floor, or sounds around you. There is no need to force your breathing. When you notice your attention has moved elsewhere, you can gently return to the point you chose. You can also stop or pause whenever you need to.
Close the session at your own pace
When the completion bell sounds, take a moment before moving on. Notice whether the duration and volume felt comfortable. You can repeat the same setup next time or change it. Stillness Timer remembers your settings in the same browser; clearing site data or switching devices returns you to the defaults.
